A psychological evaluation is a process whereby a series of psychological tests are administered in order to answer questions about your cognitive, social, emotional, developmental, and personality strengths and relative difficulties.

Psychological evaluations can be helpful in situations where you need an official diagnosis for accommodations of some kind, such as for work or studying, but they can also be incredibly helpful just for getting to know yourself better and/or to inform treatment planning. As they say, knowing is half the battle.

A comprehensive battery of tests can be quite time-consuming, as it involves a clinical intake interview, one or more sessions of testing, scoring and evaluation of test material, and a follow-up consultation. It is, however, important to be thorough in order to make an accurate diagnosis, and it is ultimately time well spent. Results are also explained and summarised in a written report.
